At the interview an officer will explain how to use the Privium lane and take a photograph of your iris and place this on the chip of your new card. Iris scanning involves taking a black and white photo of your iris. The photo only takes a second and no flash is used. Around 256 measurements are taken from the photo based on light and dark patterns that are unique to your eye. If you wear contact lenses or glasses you may be asked to remove them – some lenses / glasses are fine depending on the thickness of the glass and or the level of the tint. This photo is stored on your Privium Card and whenever you pass through border control, the information on your card is compared to the iris scan.
